What is Ripple?
Ripple, otherwise known as XRP, is a lesser-known cryptocurrency with some excellent features such as lightning-quick transfer times and almost non-existent fees.
Ripple Gambling in 2021
Ripple is a unique cryptocurrency that focuses on almost instant transfers and super-low fees. While it’s 6th on the list of crypto prices by market cap, there aren’t a lot of reputable online casinos that accept this token.
Ripple came into existence in 2012 and was created as a means of payment, with money transfer and currency exchange being the focus of their attention. As such, they wanted to offer real-time transfers that would be transparent, and which would be a safe alternative to payment methods such as SWIFT.
As you can already imagine, a cryptocurrency with a focus on payments will have some serious benefits for online gamblers. Ripple uses a different method to validate transactions compared to, let’s say, Bitcoin. Bitcoin makes use of blockchain mining, whereas Ripple uses a consensus mechanism which means almost instant confirmations.
XRP transactions take mere seconds, while Bitcoin can take anything from 10 minutes on average, to a few hours. Ripple is not only faster – at 1,500 transactions per second to Bitcoin’s 10 – but also cheaper as it uses less energy to validate, and this means your transaction fees are way lower. At the time of writing this, the cost of a standard Ripple transaction was 0.00001 XRP. Let’s put that into a language we can all understand: 1 XRP is the equivalent of $0.5962 so if you do the math, that means each transaction is practically free!
A great example of the above happened in 2018 when TechCrunch founder, Michael Arrington, allegedly sent $50 million in XRP. He said the entire thing took “like two seconds and it cost 30 cents”. There’s just no beating that!
So right there we have two superb reasons for using Ripple in online gambling: virtually negligible costs and almost instant transactions! If you’ve ever had a good run on your favorite game and wanted to withdraw your hard-earned winnings only to have to wait hours, you’ll appreciate why Ripple is good for the nerves!
Now some might argue that because XRP was created by a private company (Ripple Labs), that your information won’t be private. That’s not true. Ripple is totally decentralized so despite the fact that the transaction info is public, payment data is not available for viewing, so fear not!
There’s also a practical side to Ripple that goes beyond gambling. If you wanted to exchange your XRP tokens for say US dollars, you could do so without relying on any intermediaries or third parties so sending money across the globe is a doddle (and cheap)! That’s because Ripple is used as a mediator between fiat and crypto currencies.
Now when it comes to Bitcoin, people buy this crypto not just to gamble with but as a means of investment. Ripple is no slouch, though. If you check out the various crypto prices by market cap, you’ll see that (at the time of writing) XRP is 6th on the list behind stalwarts Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Tether. Not too shabby, then.
Ripple has also earned the trust of many well-known and trusted financial institutions and companies such as Bank of America, HSBC Holdings, JP Morgan, and MoneyGram. If the world starts going in the direction of accepting crypto, then Ripple will be well positioned to take advantage of this. And in that case, XRP will be a great investment option.
So we’ve spoken about the positives, but what are the downsides of gambling with Ripple? Well, there aren’t that many casinos that accept it but hopefully this will change in the future.
